The drama-filled League of Legends European Championship (LEC) Summer Season has come to a close, together with Syndra Build being among the most obvious mid and lowest lane selections. She currently boasts a existence of 85 per cent, with been chosen 21 times and prohibited 56 occasions in the mid lane or bot lane role.

With coveted success in the two lanes, we're joined by MAD Lions' Marek "Humanoid" Brázda and Rogue's Steven "Hans Sama" Liv to talk about the Dark Sovereign and what makes her such a commanding presence on the Rift.

Pros and Cons of the Dark Sovereign

So what makes Syndra Build such a dominant pick in both roles? "Syndra includes an extremely powerful lane stage," says Humanoid,"and she scales fairly well towards the late night game" And Hans Sama is unequivocal about her strengths in the bot lane. "She can constantly participate , and she's a fantastic followup -- very mad damage."

While some champions make up for their weak early games with devastating late game damage, Syndra Build seems to get to enjoy the best of both worlds, with a dominant early game with few hard-counters, coupled with a strong late game during which she can oneshot any squishy opponent.

If Syndra Build has any weaknesses at all, they are found in champion select. While nobody can shut her down completely, Syndra Build will struggle against certain types of champions. "She fights against assassin winners at the midgame," says Humanoid,"till she can construct a defensive product " This is mainly because Syndra Build herself is completely immobile barring her Flash, and also due to the fact that she is a mage, and therefore quite squishy. Humanoid advises remedying this by purchasing a defensive item such as Zhonya's Hourglass or Banshee's Veil.

Syndra Build played as a botlaner has one additional weakness, which is that your team comp might be overwhelmed with magic damage. "In the entire team , you could have two mages that isn't the most effective thing to get," explains Hans Sama,"since the enemies can only stack a good deal of magic immunity." This is fixable however, if you can ensure that your midlaner, toplaner or jungler picks a physical damage dealing champion such as the newly released Yone, Yasuo, or Qiyana.

Of course, another thing that makes Syndra Build a favourable pick is the fact that you can flex pick her in the bottom or mid lane. A flex pick is a champion that can be played in different lanes. When a flex is picked in champion select, the enemy won't know which lane the champion will be played in. Playing a flex pick is, therefore, a good way to avoid getting countered in champion select.

Limitless Potential on Senna

Syndra Build fits well into nearly every team composition, and Humanoid regards her as a great blind pick due to the fact that she has no hard-counters. Since Syndra Build is so good at bursting people, a team with some hard crowd control (to catch an enemy out and keep them in place) will synergise well with her. "You can almost never go wrong by choosing Syndra," says Humanoid. "She fits virtually every team makeup."

In the bot lane, Syndra Build is equally versatile, but Hans Sama emphasises that you should make sure that your team will have enough Attack Damage even with a Syndra Build botlaner. When looking for a good support, think of champions with high crowd control like Thresh or Leona. A mage support is less efficient since the enemy can purchase Magic Resistance early on to counter you both.

When it comes to the early game, your goal is the same in both mid and bottom lane -- farm up, get some kills, and buff up for the rest of the game. As a midlaner though, you have more options since you will be able to roam as well. "You can opt to play on your own and acquire lane," says Humanoid,"or get your additional lanes beforehand with roams on account of your strong drive " Pushing in the lane with your abilities means that the enemy tower will be in trouble, and this will prompt the enemy midlaner to take care of it. You can use this opportunity to roam top or bottom and secure some kills for yourself or your allies. Although she's immobile, Syndra Build has powerful ganks because of her single-target burst and area-of-effect CC, which is especially useful in bot lane.

Syndra Build has a very powerful early game in both mid and bot lane. Her Q has a relatively short cooldown and low mana cost, but it deals a good amount of damage even with its recent nerf. "Q-E combo if strike has rather small counterplay, so get forward usually by putting the enemy from lane," suggests Humanoid. This is particularly potent versus low-range or melee midlaners who will find it difficult to avoid the constant spheres. In a bad match-up, such as one against assassins, you will want to play more carefully, farm up as much as you can, and look forward to your mid-game power spike.

Unleashed Power

Syndra Build hits her power spike in the mid-game once she picks up her core items of Sorcerer's Boots, Luden's Echo, and one more AP item of your choosing. "Spellbinder is great against squishy champions, Liandry's from tanks, Banshee's or Zhonya's should you want a defensive thing, then Void Staff and Rabadon's Deathcap," says Humanoid. Once you have your first two core items and boots, you will be able to oneshot any squishy champion. It's important to make use of this spike in your strength and secure some kills or objectives in the chaotic mid-game,before enemies start to build stats and items to negate your combo.

Syndra Build can be a big game-changer in team fights, either by controlling the battlefield with her AoE damage and stun, or by taking out a key target with her burst. "If I'm feeling confident, I will perform a frontline Syndra," says Hans Sama. This is a risk you can afford to take when you, or your team, are very far ahead and when there are no assassins to worry about in team fights. According to Humanoid,"the very first thing to search for is whether you're able to get in range of enemy ADCs to oneshot them" However, if you're forced to play things safer, possibly due to pesky opponents or as you or your staff have dropped behind, it is possible to play it safe and concentrate on piling your Q on the floor, and applying your E to cope damage to multiple targets.

Conclusion Syndra Build

Though she has endured a nerf as of this current patch 10.16, Syndra Build has been an admirable pick at the Summer Season of the LEC and will probably continue to predominate in play. Her ancient match ability, coupled with the late match devastation, makes her valuable to any club makeup.
